Maintaining and repairing your footwear is essential to keep them comfortable, functional, and durable. Whether you have hiking boots, sneakers, or dress shoes, here's a checklist to help you identify and address common repair and maintenance tasks:

Inspection:

  • Check for Damage: Inspect the entire shoe, including the upper, sole, heel, and stitching, for any signs of damage or wear.

  • Sole Wear: Examine the soles for uneven wear patterns. Uneven wear can indicate alignment issues or overpronation/underpronation.

  • Heel Condition: Check the condition of the heel, including any worn-down areas or loose heels.

  • Toe Box: Inspect the toe box for creasing or damage, especially in leather shoes.

  • Stitching: Look for loose or frayed stitching, particularly around the seams and the sole.

  • Eyelets and Hardware: Ensure eyelets, hooks, or other hardware are intact and securely attached.

Cleaning:

  • Remove Dirt: Brush off dirt and debris from the shoe's exterior using a soft brush or cloth. For stubborn stains, use a damp cloth and mild soap.

  • Insole Removal: If your shoes have removable insoles, take them out and clean them separately.

  • Laces: Remove and clean or replace laces if they are dirty or worn.

  • Interior: Remove any loose debris from the inside of the shoe.

Repairs:

  • Tear and Hole Repair: Use Stormsure Boot & Shoe repair kit, adhesive or patches to mend tears or holes in the upper or lining.

  • Sole Repair: If the sole is separating from the upper, use Stormsure Flexible Repair Adhesive to glue the sole back together.

  • Heel Replacement: If the heel is damaged or excessively worn, consider replacing it. Stormsure Flexible Repair Adhesive can be used to rebuild a heel.

  • Hardware Replacement: Replace missing or damaged eyelets, hooks, or other hardware with matching replacements.

Sole Maintenance:

  • Clean Soles: Use a sole brush or a toothbrush to clean the treads on the soles, especially if they are caked with mud or debris.

  • Traction Enhancement: If the sole has lost traction, consider adding a sole grip or traction-enhancing product to improve grip.

  • Rebuild: Stormsure Flexible Repair Adhesive can be used to rebuild part or all of a sole.

Storage:

  • Proper Storage: Store your shoes in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Use shoe trees to help maintain their shape.

By regularly inspecting, cleaning, and repairing your footwear, you can prolong their lifespan and ensure they continue to provide comfort and support. Quality maintenance can also save you money by extending the life of your favorite shoes and reducing the need for replacements.
