The Science

In the case of Stormsure adhesive – the liquid glue will start to cure when it is exposed to even the smallest amount of water vapour in the air. This initiates a chemical chain reaction which will continue until all the glue has cured. The glue should be used at room temperature (15°C - 25°C for best results). Do not use below 5°C.  If the glue is too cold the it may appear white and waxy. - Just warm it up until it is a transparent liquid again and it will work fine. 

This adhesive is a single component moisture curing product.  It has 70% solids content and will only shrink slightly as it cures but this helps to create a very strong and tight bond on most surfaces. It can be used to fill gaps and holes.

Mix a small amount of this accelerator with Stormsure Flexible Repair Adhesive and it will help reduce the cure time from 10-12 hours down to about 1-2 hours.

Also you can use it to thin the adhesive so it may be applied with a paint brush. For waterproofing stitched seams you should make a mixture with only 25% adhesive and 75% accelerator. Mix quickly and thoroughly and paint it onto the surface. The mixture will "wick" its way into the tiny needle holes and cure inside the thread thus blocking the hole.

Some drysuit manufacturers use 3 layers. The first is about 85% accelerator, The second layer is 25% and the third layer is 5% accelerator. This combination should outlast the life of the suit.

Clean around the damaged area. For small holes, apply a thick film (1.5mm) of glue over the damaged surface plus an extra 10mm around it and leave to cure. To fix holes larger than 5mm, cover the underside of the hole with sticky tape. Apply the glue over the top surface as a thick film. (The tape holds the glue in place as it cures.) After it has cured, remove the tape and apply another thick film of glue on the underside. Always glue up to 10mm beyond the edges of the hole. Leave for 24 hours for a full cure.
